Walter Helm serves as managing director of Sperry Van Ness/Walter Helm. As the first Sperry Van Ness agent recruited for the Sacramento Market, Helm brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the Sperry Van Ness team. He has conducted more than 150 career transactions valued in excess of $250 million.

Helm has an extensive background as a commercial real estate broker, having served as senior agent for Marcus & Millichap as well as vice president of investment for Cornish & Carey Commercial Real Estate. Previously, Helm served as an income property agent for Bishop Hawk, a regional firm which was purchased by Grubb & Ellis.

A veteran of the industry, Helm has been involved in a variety of transactions, including apartments, mobile home parks, self storage units, industrial, office and retail buildings, and numerous sites for Rite Aid. Further, he has provided appraisals for property tax deductions, testified in hearings regarding property values, and done multiple appraisals for the FDIC.

In addition, Helm has more than 25 years of in-depth management experience. He has served as asset and property manager for large apartment complexes as well as miscellaneous commercial projects. He has organized and been a general partner in “blind pool” projects and has proven to be a source of value enhancement for his clients.
One of Helm’s major strengths is his ability to understand the goals of his clients, and guide the client towards achieving those goals and more.

A skilled, licensed pilot, Helm adds to his value to his clients the ability to tour them by air in his private plane. Helm is also licensed in Oklahoma, where he feels clients can experience an excellent return on their investments. Through his Sperry Van Ness resources, Helm utilizes the entire nation in his search to find the best investments for his clients. Helm received his bachelor's degrees in Marketing and Psychology from California State University, Chico.
